How to use Choices

The Choices series, Choices: Planning for Grade 9 and Choices: Secondary Program Guide, contain important information that will help you understand the concept of destination planning and the importance of knowing your interests and abilities and connecting them to opportunities available during and beyond secondary school.

Choices: Planning for Grade 9 contains information about course types and the diploma requirements. It also explains other relevant opportunities that will be available throughout high school. The Choices: Secondary Program Guide will help you explore the many programs available in ԹϺ secondary schools.

Course Descriptions

Course description can be found using the High School Course Search. The course description tells you a bit about what you can expect to learn in that subject. In senior years, it tells you what the prerequisites are (subjects you must have successfully completed). Prerequisites ensure that you are prepared for the course. If the course description does not tell you enough about a course, ask your teacher for as much information as you need in order to make an informed decision about your plan. This course enables students to consolidate, and continue to develop, an understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense and operations, algebra, measurement, geometry, data, probability, and financial literacy. Students will use mathematical processes, mathematical modeling, and coding to make sense of the mathematics they are learning and to apply their understanding to culturally responsive and relevant real-world situations. Students will continue to enhance their mathematical reasoning skills, including proportional reasoning, spatial reasoning, and algebraic reasoning, as they solve problems and communicate their thinking.
