As the largest school Board in Canada, we represent nearly 600 schools and serve more than 250,000 students each year. We are proud that many of our schools have active, student-led Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) that show tremendous leadership, advocacy and support in their schools.
In 2011, our Board of Trustees officially declared themselves a GSA in support of safe and positive schools in the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø.
Outstanding GSAs are honoured every year through the Director’s Gender and Sexuality Alliances Awards. Each year, this award recognizes three outstanding alliances and provides $1,000 to support their work creating safe spaces for queer and trans youth and their allies, projects in anti-homophobia and anti-transphobia actions and education, and building student leaders in political action.
