This article describes data that shows the rate of improvement for Black students' elementary school reading marks as twice that of White students and eight times that of East Asian students. While recognizing this success, the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø notes that the percentage of Black students meeting provincial standards is still the lowest among groups by race. While Black students had more room to grow academically compared to other groups, other explanations for the rate of increase includes Black students benefitting from smaller class sizes, and not having to deal with racism by other students and educators while in school.
