Ward 8 Forum

The purpose of the Ward Forum is to network and build relationships among school communities in the ward with their trustee and superintendent; to share information and to discuss the needs and issues of common concern to the school communities in the ward; and to act as a forum for school community consultation and input on educational policies, programs and service


ÌýMembership

1. Parent representative and alternate from each school

2. Superintendent(s)

3. Ward Trustee

4. FSLAC representative and alternate

5. PIAC (Parent Involvement Advisory Committee) representative and alternate

6. Student Council representatives, Principals and Vice-Principals, and other parents/caregivers and school staff are welcome

Responsibility of Parent RepresentativesÌý

1. Act as a link between the local school council/community and the Ward Council by consulting and reporting back

2. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled meetingsÌý

JOINT VIRTUAL WARD FORUM - Stop Taxing School Donations Tuesday April 1, 2025, | 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Please join Trustee James Li and Trustee Shelley Laskin for a Joint Virtual Ward Forum to discuss the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø's revised Fundraising Policy discussed at the last GPC.
The vote at committee was 5-4 in favour of a mandatory contribution to the “System Priorities Fund”. In other words, a percentage of school fundraising dollars would be collected centrally to be used for system priorities. Before the Board vote on April 16, 2025, we'd like to hear from you.

JOINT VIRTUAL WARD FORUM - Stop the Hate – Creating Understanding In times of Geopolitical Conflict

Please join me and my colleagues Alexandra Lulka Rotman, Michelle Aarts and Deborah Williams for an opportunity to hear from experts in the field of antisemitism and hate - Mark Sandler and Karen Mock. To read their full bios, please . Our guests will discuss hate, what it is and what it isn’t, antisemitism, its historical roots and current context and how it impacts the broader community and the educational environment on students, their families and staff.
 
Most importantly, how to move forward through respectful dialogue in this time of geopolitical conflict.
