Cricket Development Collaboration

Categories: Advocacy

July 11, 2024

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau, Premier Ford, and Mayor Chow,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees at the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø (³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø), I am writing to you about an opportunity to bring together the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø and three levels of government (federal, provincial and municipal) to explore a potential collaboration to increase the accessibility and availability of cricket programming in Toronto.

Cricket is now one of the fastest-growing sports in Canada. Offering cricket in schools provides many newcomer students with a sense of belonging and joy, and its popularity is growing among students of all genders and ages. Over the past three decades, ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø teachers, students, and families have worked tirelessly to promote cricket within our schools and district.

Unfortunately, many schools continue to struggle to find coaches, fields, and equipment to offer cricket. The lack of availability and accessibility of cricket fields and programming remains a significant challenge for ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø students.

Our Board of Trustees believes that a collaborative effort between the three levels of government and the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø can best address these challenges. By working together, we can ensure that more students are able to participate in cricket, thus enhancing their educational experience and fostering a greater sense of community – both inside and outside the classroom.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter further at your earliest convenience and look forward to exploring how we can collaborate to support the growth of cricket in our schools and communities.

Sincerely,

Rachel Chernos Lin
Chair, ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø
