At Brown Junior Public School, welcoming new students and families is more than a gesture—it’s a community effort. The school’s Student Welcome Committee, made up of student ambassadors from Grades 4 to 6, is creating meaningful connections that extend beyond the classroom walls.
Each ambassador is paired with a new student in Grades 1 to 6, becoming a “buddy” throughout the school year. In November, these buddy pairs had the chance to bond during a special day of cooperative activities. Together, they made friendship bracelets, constructed creative structures, played games, and shared countless laughs.
This year, the program has grown to embrace not only new students but also their families. A new Parent/Caregiver Mentor Program now offers a warm welcome and guidance to parents and caregivers joining the Brown J.P.S. community. The Welcome Committee has expanded to support new parents/caregivers with a Brown J.P.S parent/caregiver mentor.
A heartfelt thank-you goes to Ms. Myroniuk, the school settlement worker, for her invaluable support in making this initiative a success.
Through teamwork, kindness, and creativity, the Welcome Committees are building bridges and friendships that enrich the entire school community and make Brown J.P.S. feel like home for everyone.
