It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Murray Sinclair. A former member of Canada’s Senate, he was a leading legal scholar and one of Canada’s first Indigenous judges. He fulfilled an instrumental role as the Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC), which documented the legacy and personal experiences of the residential school system and tabled 94 Calls to Action for reconciliation between Indigenous peoples and Canada.
He will remain a profoundly important figure in our collective journey towards fulfilling the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, working passionately and tirelessly to advance the rights of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples.
At the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, we will continue to strive to live up to Murray Sinclair’s legacy through championing Indigenous rights, justice and truth.
As we reflect upon the life of Murray Sinclair and the important work ahead of us, flags at all ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø administrative sites are being lowered to remember his lasting impact upon us all.
