LCPI Student TEDx Talks: Bold Ideas for a Changing World

Categories: News

Students at Lawrence Park CI shared their “ideas worth spreading” with an audience of 500+ guests for TEDxYouth@LPCI, an independently-organized TED event dedicated to uplifting the voices of LCPI’s school community.

The theme of the event, "Turning a New Leaf: Bold Ideas for a Changing World", highlighted the following 5 incredible youth voices from LPCI:

Chloe Chan, Gr 10: Positivity Chloe will share her bold idea of reprogramming our minds into a positive mindset. Positivity is not always just smiling and looking happy, it is more about one’s overall perspective and their propensity to focus on the bright things in life. In less than 15 minutes, Chloe will be guiding you through simple, but life changing advice on how to master the skill of positivity in the simplest of ways. She is looking forward to bringing a change into people's everyday life, from their thoughts to action.

Solomon Jackman, Gr 10: Working Through Not Working Out Solomon will take the audience on an emotionally charged journey through the highs and lows of his psyche during his first experience with starting a workout routine after being beaten down by a year like 2020.

Alexa Greenspoon, Gr 11: Sex Education Alexa will explore the issues with sex education and its systematic problem. She will look deeper into the quality of education as there was an increase of unanswered questions surrounding sex, sexuality, gender, substance use and sexism.

Nicole Anderson, Gr 11: The Science of Space Travel Nicole will be discussing the benefits of nuclear fusion and how it improves space travel.

Kolade Akanni, Gr 12: Your Accent. Your Identity. In this talk about the relationship between the dominant western culture and the loss of the black culture, Kolade will share his fearless idea about how different Black accents are being perceived and the impacts on respective speakers.

This was an independently organized TEDx event. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. This is not an official TED event.
