The Regional Science Fair was held recently in Toronto and Eastview’s Nain Abdi was one of three medalist recipients selected to represent Team Toronto at the Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF) in Ottawa.

The Canada Wide Science Fair began in 1962 and takes place annually in a selected province. Participants from over 100 regional fairs across Canada are chosen to participate in the weeklong event to display their science projects. It is a competition that strives to give bright, young scientists a platform to present their scientific findings and to allow their curiosity and excitement for science to grow.

Nain, who won a gold medal at the Regional Science Fair in March, went on to win a bronze medal at the national championship in Ottawa. His enthusiasm for science allowed him to fully embrace the STEM initiative at Eastview PS so he could be successful at the Regional and Canada Wide Science Fair. Nain’s mentor, Ms. Campitelli, provided the resources, tools, and opportunities for Nain to participate with other schools and communities. One of the initiatives for model schools is S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math) and Nain successfully shaped and completed his project through S.T.E.M. which captured him a bronze medal and $1000 bursary to Western University.

Initiatives such as S.T.E.M. are made in the hopes of giving more students the opportunities to expand their scientific knowledge that will feed their creativity and enthusiasm about science.  S.T.E.M. teaches students to think critically about concepts and problems in our world from a scientific and mathematical perspective.

³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, one of the platinum sponsors of the Toronto Science Fair, plays a crucial role in ensuring all students are given the chance to participate in the Canada Wide Science Fair and showcase their high levels of understanding through their science fair projects.

Congratulations Nain.
