York Memorial Collegiate Institute's Mission Statement

York Memorial offers students specialized programs that include the R.U.S.H. (Roadmap to University Success with Honours) Pre - AP and Advanced Placement (AP) programs.  We also offer five different SHSMs (Specialist High Skills Major).

This is our very first year as an amalgamated school and we are using the former George Harvey site while York Memorial is currently being rebuilt.

Academic Pathways
York Memorial C.I. offers enhanced pathway courses in its grade 9 and 10 compulsory classes (English, Geography, French, History, Mathematics and Science).  This will ensure that every student will have all possible options available to them before choosing their post-secondary pathway.
We believe that by setting high expectations, providing additional support for all students, and using teaching strategies that meet individual student’s needs, our students will be in the best possible position to successfully achieve their credits and gain their OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma).

Our Students

Student Data:  Total number of students 1293

When students first enter into York Memorial they are encouraged and provided with the opportunities to develop their leadership and teambuilding skills.
We are a school where tradition and forward thinking converge to shape future leaders and global citizens of tomorrow. We do this by equipping our students with critical thinking skills through a global perspective lens, whilst holding steadfast to our core values of Respect, Accountability, Resilience and Excellence.

At York Memorial we believe in the concept that all students should be receiving as holistic an education as possible. School is not just about books and memorization, it is also about learning life skills, making friends, and discovering one's true self. We want all of our students to enjoy coming to school each and every day in order to learn and to better themselves and become productive citizens within society.

Student Life - Where You Belong

GO TEAM

We offer many clubs and should have something for everyone such as:  Drama, Board Games, Chess, Library, Kiwanis Key Club, LGBTQ++, ECO team, South East Asian Student Associations, Black History Club, Group Latino, etc.
In terms of sports, students have a variety to participate in or spectate with cheer:  basketball, volleyball, badminton, field hockey, baseball, cricket, soccer, swimming, tennis, cross country and track and field, just to name a few.  There is something for everyone! If you would like to start up your own club, all you need is a group of interested students and a staff advisor.  It is that simple!  And if clubs are not your thing, there are many events to participate in throughout the year:  Terry Fox Run, Community Clean Up Day, Toy Drive, Humanitarian Relief initiatives and Global awareness efforts. So get involved!

WHAT SETS US APART

Our programs yield impressive results.  Our students excel, achieving test scores well above average by the time they reach post secondary education and as such, many of our students earn entrance scholarships to post secondary institutions. Every year YMCI ranks amongst the province leaders in terms of our National AP Scholars. In addition to these National Scholars we also have many others qualify for a variety of AP Scholar Awards.  YMCI  leads the way in offering the largest number of AP exams and the most successful results of all Pre-AP and AP schools in Ontario.
