C W Jefferys Collegiate Institute's Mission Statement

 C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute is a semestered school located at Finch and Sentinel, between Jane and Keele and is in close proximity to York University. It was founded in 1965. The school was named after Charles William Jefferys, a Canadian artist whose work has contributed to education in the areas of Canadian History and Art.


Our students excel in all areas of academic pursuit, consistently ranking among the top winners in mathematics and science competitions. Each year, our students are the recipients of numerous bursaries, awards, and entrance scholarships to some of the province's top colleges and universities. Our post-secondary acceptance rate is a noteworthy 80%.

Specialized Programs

The ESTe2M (Enriched Science Technology and Mathematics) program is a cross-curricular program designed to challenge students through an exploratory approach to science, math and computer technology. Together with a peer group who share their level of interest and motivation, students work on projects that integrate all three disciplines

The Specialized Visual Arts Program provides students with essential training required to prepare them for post-secondary education. Students are exposed to a wide range of art forms including graphic design, digital art, media arts, printmaking, painting, sculpture, pottery and photography.

We provide students with opportunities to take part in: credit recovery/rescue programs, Co-op/Continuous intake Co-op, mentorship programs.  We have a strong Co-operative Education Program which combines classroom instruction with valuable hands-on experience in various occupational areas in business, the public sector and in industry. Students may earn two, three or four credits during the Co-op term.

Student Leadership Program

CW Jefferys has a thriving student leadership development program that includes training senior students through our GPP301 course to run a leadership camp for all grade 9 students in the fall. This Adventure based Leadership program allows students to contribute to the broader school community as mentors while contributing to their own growth and development.

Robotics

Robotics offers students a unique opportunity to explore the math, science and technology fields in a creative manner. Students learn to build, program and operate technologically advanced robots while participating in provincial and national competitions.  The skills developed through this program help to prepare students for the changing work environment of the future.

The C.W. Jefferys Music Department offers a program that meets the needs of a diverse range of musical interests, with courses in keyboard, band, guitar, and vocal music. Our extra curricular groups, including a Choir, Drumline, Beginner Guitar, Jazz and Rock Band, also provide students with exciting performance opportunities. The music that is explored carefully balances the contemporary with its important historical roots. We are passionate about providing our students with a musical education that is meaningful and relevant and will develop the skills they need, whether they choose to continue their studies in music after graduation or simply want to be more informed listeners and music makers.

Academic Support

We provide a myriad of academic support programs to help all students. Students benefit  from highly skilled tutors ie: LAWS tutoring; after school literacy; daily math tutoring; and online homework help. Our STYLE tutoring program runs after school to provide support in all subject areas. Literacy, numeracy, ESL, and Special Education support provided to students.

We have developed solid community partnerships that focus on inclusion and safe schools initiatives. The San Romanoway Healthy Teens Project empowers groups of students to develop strong, peer-led,pro-social skills.

Our settlement Worker in Schools program provides students and their families with vast resources to ensure a smooth transition for newcomer youth and their families.

Athletics

C.W. Jefferys has an outstanding athletic program.  Fielding teams in all key sports leagues including our recently established football program.   Students have access to quality facilites including our newly renovated state of the art weight room.  With a thriving intramural program CW Jefferys Athletics program is ideal for athletic participants at all levels.

PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

C.W. Jefferys is a true community school. We welcome and celebrate the unique talents of our students, our parents, and our community partners. We encourage all parents to get involved in our school council. Our quarterly newsletter keeps parents informed about the many events and activities that take place in the school. We are fortunate to have a significant number of community partners that run outstanding programs for our students. These include partnerships with Torys Law Firm, Black Business and Professional Association, York University, North York Community House, Colleges with Schools (Humber, Seneca, George Brown) and the Learning Partnership. By working together with parents and community organizations we continue to build strong programs that supports the needs of students at C.W. Jefferys.
