Eligibility & Outcomes

Project/Initiatives will be required to:

Navigating Technology and Artificial Intelligence (For Parents and Caregivers):

  • Educate parents and caregivers on what AI is, how it works, and its current and future impacts on society.
  • Explain how AI is integrated into everyday life, from apps to devices, and how it is shaping industries and the global economy.
  • Teach parents about the tools and technologies students are using, including AI-powered platforms, and explain how they are utilizing these tools for learning, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Help parents stay informed about advancements in AI and technology to better understand the digital world their children are growing up in.

Civil Discourse/Courageous Conversations:

  • Foster respectful and thoughtful dialogue among parents, caregivers, and educators on various topics, encouraging open communication even when there are differences of opinion.
  • Promote a culture of listening and mutual respect where diverse perspectives can be shared without hostility or judgment.
  • Equip parents and caregivers with strategies to navigate difficult conversations constructively, maintaining a focus on understanding and collaboration.
  • Create spaces that encourage community connection through honest and respectful exchanges of ideas and experiences.

Food Sovereignty:

  • Encourage skill-building in sustainable local food production, including planting, growing, harvesting, and distributing.
  • Increase access to fresh, affordable, and healthy food options for families.
  • Promote long-term local food system control and education on food security.

Human Rights:

  • Create spaces that center the voices of racialized parents and caregivers.
  • Address issues of equity, anti-oppression, and human rights, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion.

Mental Health and Well-Being:

  • Develop initiatives that improve mental health outcomes for students and families.
  • Provide trauma-informed support that addresses emotional and psychological well-being, promoting resilience.
  • Foster environments where families feel safe, supported, and included.

Chronic Absenteeism:

  • Implement strategies to reduce chronic absenteeism by addressing its root causes.
  • Engage parents and caregivers to ensure regular school attendance by providing support and resources for attendance-related challenges.
  • Create supportive environments where families are motivated to prioritize regular attendance.

Early Literacy and Numeracy:

  • Engage parents and caregivers in supporting early literacy and numeracy skills at home.
  • Provide resources and strategies for fostering a love of reading and numeracy in young children.
  • Learn how to collaborate with educators to ensure continuity of learning between school and home.

Outcomes:

  • Parents and caregivers fostering supportive home environments that enhance children's early learning and set the foundation for academic success.
  • Parents/caregivers developing strategies to address barriers to school attendance, reducing absenteeism and improving student engagement.
  • Communities experience improved mental health and well-being, reduced stigma, and greater emotional support for parents/caregivers.
  • Racialized parents and caregivers feel a sense of belonging and empowerment, actively addressing racism, bias, and systemic barriers.
  • Increased access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate local food, with improved knowledge of food security and sovereignty. 
  • Parents/caregivers and school communities engage in respectful, open conversations on challenging topics, fostering greater understanding and inclusion.
  • Parents and caregivers gain a deeper understanding of AI and technology, equipping them to support their children's use of digital tools and navigate future advancements.Â
