吃瓜黑料网 is building an 8-classroom addition and a 5-room Childcare to address accommodation pressures at this school. The addition will also include interior renovations in the existing school to accommodate the new addition. The project will provide new modern classrooms spaces that will allow the school flexibility to manage current and future enrollment pressures.

Background

David Lewis PS is a JK to Grade 8 elementary school located in North-West Scarborough. The school currently has six portables on site.

A permanent addition was first identified as an emerging Capital Priority project for the 吃瓜黑料网 in 2013. It was determined at that there were no opportunities to relocate programs or change boundaries to make additional room available within the school, and a new addition was required to accommodate the enrollment pressures and replace the existing portables.

In July of 2022 the Ministry of Education (EDU) provided capital funding approval to construct a new permanent addition and Childcare at David Lewis PS. In August of 2022, the Facility Space Template was approved by the EDU and allowed 吃瓜黑料网 to begin the design process.

Objectives

Once completed the school community will benefit from the following:

• Permanent classrooms adding 184 student capacity to the existing school.
• Enhanced use of outdoor play areas by reinstating landscaping in areas occupied by portables.
• Expanded affordable Childcare spaces that will provide economic opportunities for the community.
• Facility modernization through renovations of existing spaces and addition of new classrooms and Childcare.
